There are no universal formulas for becoming an inspirational leader.

It’s why so many of the recipe-style business books fail — the ones that prescribe leadership according to Moses, Shakespeare, or Jack Welch
.

No one can succeed by copying another leader. Four leadership qualities are essential for inspirational leadership, particularly during turbulent times such as now, but they cannot be used mechanically.  Indeed, there is a lot left unspecified in each.
The four qualities I feel are inspirational for a leader:

1. The leader who shows his/her vulnerability by being approachable,
2. The leader who is not afraid to trust their gut feeling or, intuition,
3. The leader who is willing to manage their team with ‘tough’ empathy, and
4. The leader who is not afraid to reveal and use their strengths.

It’s up to you to develop your own leadership style. The challenge is to be yourself but with more skill.  What’s needed will vary from context to context.  It’s up to you to develop and refine your intuition and sensors, find ways to be different, selectively reveal your flaws and empathise while remaining steadfast.

A major independent survey of 1200 key business leaders from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, conducted on behalf of human resource company Talent2, shows that more than 40 per cent of business influencers do not believe the capabilities of their employees match their business needs for the next one to three years.

With turbulent times on our doorstep, business will struggle with business development and to drive profits without the right skill set on board. Interestingly, about 40 per cent of Australian business leaders say they do not have strategies in place to fix this challenge and 39 per cent say they are not involved in any shape or form in shaping and developing talent management strategies for their company.

Consider doing the exploratory work with a trusted business or executive coach or, consultant with PINNACLE Business Solutions.

Leaders who are confident enough to risk being vulnerable and do the work will grow in ways that ultimately benefit their business and the people they lead.
